HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR BUSINESS?
I have been planning parties, events and fundraisers of all kinds for many years and it has always been a passion of mine. I come from 20+ years in marketing and communications and in 2016 saw an opportunity to open my own company and have my dream job.
HOW DID THE HELP YOU GOT FROM BACD IMPACT YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS?
BACD was awesome. I was in their office one week after I left my job and found out about a new startup program for entrepreneurs. It was perfect timing for me. They helped me to develop my business model canvas and really focus my attention on what I needed to do in order to start and properly run my business. There were some great topic speakers and fantastic mentorship with the BACD. I learned a lot about running a business through the program and people there. Everyone at BACD was so positive and encouraging.
HOW DO YOU MARKET YOUR BUSINESS?
I have joined a number of networking groups such as the Ajax Picketing Board of Trade, and I use social media as much as possible to promote my business (although I am still learning and I need to do much more!). Also, I set up booths at trade shows and business expos to showcase my company. Word of mouth from those who have used my services has also been valuable!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS?
Stick with it. There are highs and lows in every business. Get proper business advice from those around you and go to places like the BACD where most of their services are FREE to those starting a business. Also be sure to surround yourself with positive people!
