The Business Advisory Centre Durham (BACD) is one of 3 organizations managing the Shop Here and Digital Main Street program in Durham Region.
The Whitby BIA manages their members and the Clarington Board of Trade is managing the Municipality of Clarington businesses. If you are part of the Whitby BIA or in the Municipality of Clarington, please contact them directly.
As part of our mandate to help Durham businesses impacted by COVID-19, the BACD is pleased to facilitate the Digital Main Street program. Digital Main Street is a government-based initiative to help business owners expand their digital presence. Through this partnership, we are offering a number of FREE digital services to business over 1 year in operation.

- Website content & graphic review & recommendations
- Social media strategies and tools
- Digital marketing & content strategies

Meet Durham's Digital Main Street Squad
The 3 programs BACD manages are:
ShopHERE provides INDEPENDENT SMALL BUSINESSES and ARTISTS with a quick, easy and no-cost way to get selling online right away by providing free help to create an e-commerce website on Shopify.
** The ShopHERE program is free for participants to sign up and have a Shopify store built. Businesses will be responsible for the monthly Shopify fee after the initial 90-day trial.
- It is a registered business, or a registered non-profit organization.
- It has a commercial location or is home-based.
- It has fewer than ten employees or fewer than 25 employees if a restaurant or bar.
- It is not a corporate chain or franchise.
- Or must be an artist.
Digital Main Street
For BIA/CBD (mainstreet) businesses who have a commercial space. Free Digital Services Squad to help you with expanding your web/digital presence and training to help implement your Digital Transformation Plan (DTP).
Step 1. Create an account on Digital Main Street Website
Step 2. BACD's Digital Service Squad will contact you to set up a meeting.
Step 3. Meet with the Digital Service Squad (DSS) member. The DSS member will review your needs and the tools required to expand your web/digital presence so your business can relaunch, reopen and recover. Our experienced team has helped retail, personal services, restaurants, not-for-profit, and creative/culture organizations with everything from Google My Business and social media, to launching websites and eCommerce shops.
Step 4. Start working on your digital transformation plan.
BACD's Digital Service Squad will do a digital audit and create an action plan of recommendations for your digital transformation and next steps as well as any programs that may help you including grant programs.
Digital Durham Starter Company
For existing business operating between 1 to 5 years and can provide proof of existing/current sales who are NOT mainstreet and don't qualify for the above programs, could qualify for BACD's Program. Funded in part by the Region of Durham, businesses will have access to a free Digital Services Squad to help with expanding of their web/digital presence, training, mentoring and the chance to apply for a grant opportunity of up to $2,500 for their Digital Transformation Plan.
