Christine Gunn, Beyond Our Dreams Preschool and Daycare (Finalist)

Located in Courtice Ontario, Beyond Our Dreams is a preschool service that provides families and their young children with preparation for mainstream education. There are very few educational programs for this age group. Often the programs available are more child care focused. Christine is a teacher and the educational component is the heart of her business. Her main target market is families that have children between 2.5 and 6 years’ old who want to prepare their children for school two to three times per week. She often connects with these families through Facebook or word of mouth and once in contact, she invites them for a tour of the space.

Doug Norton, Measurite (Semi-Finalist)

Measurite designs houses and other buildings. Our company reduces the task of getting a building permit where required, by making sure all documents and drawings are Ontario Building Code compliant. In providing design service there is a focus on designs that are pleasing and functional.


Frances Adamson, Joy Core Connection (Finalist)

At Joy core Connection we take a hands on approach by teaching students in private lessons and small group classes. Because working with each unique person is at the heart of our programs, whether you are beginner or advanced, healthy or recovering, you can learn yoga safely and get the most benefit with help from Frances, your IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist. One step at a time, you will ease stress and pain, calm your nervous system, and build strength in your body.

Janette Sigua, Dream Bloom (Finalist)

Dream Bloom is a full service event design company. We specialize in designing events such as weddings, corporate and social functions. This service enables our clients to reduce the amount of work they have to do when they have an event. Our retail shop operates just like a normal flower and gift shop and our studio serves as a creative space not just for us but for walk in customers as well. We built a plant and flower bar so people can come in and create something with their hands such as a plant or flower arrangement. It offers our customers something different to do with their friends and family.

Linda McFarlane, Smart Shelving (Finalist)

Established in 2015, Smart Shelving was founded on a need to gain better access to the lower kitchen cabinets and hidden corners. Tired of getting on hands and knees to fish things out of the hidden corner, Linda's search brought her to a Canadian made solution, Gliding Shelf Solutions. She helps her clients maximize their space, improve their access and organization the things that matter most in their homes. In the Fall of 2017 Linda took Smart Shelving to Vancouver! As a native of Vancouver, Linda saw the need for homeowners there to have a Canadian made option for purchasing their sliding shelves.

Natasha Green, Crave Pixels Design (Finalist)

Crave Pixels Design is a digital media, web and inclusive design company.  Our goal is to create user-friendly, visually engaging and accessible online content designs using clean and minimalist solutions. Natasha is the Lead UI/UX Designer & Creative Strategist. She is instrumental in bringing our clients' vision to life from a vague thought, to a creative and engaging design that not only looks beautiful but functions effectively.


Pamela Price, Priceless Beauty (Finalist)

In 2006, Pamela graduated from Humber College’s Fashion Artist and Cosmetics program and she continues to update and upgrade her skill set. As a seasoned beauty expert, she is an award-winning professional makeup artist. She is also a spray tan technician and airbrush makeup artist. Pamela is the lead make-up artist and services coordinator at Priceless Beauty. With a natural flair for the arts as a youngster, her journey to becoming a makeup artist included focused study and discipline in drawing, painting, glass blowing, textile design, and fashion. At the heart of her experience and expertise, Pamela’s true passion is to help people look their best and feel even better. This is her true motivation for delivering incomparable beauty services for the past eight years. Rebecca Munn, (Finalist) is filling the need for sewing instruction within Durham Region and beyond. Rebecca operates her sewing studio in Whitby Ontario, where she teaches over 250 students a week the lost art of sewing, and creating something from nothing. Rebecca teaches all ages, from 6 to 96, and has provided our community the chance to learn a skill that has been taken away from our school system. has also successfully helped launch over 17 local businesses by teaching or upgrading their skill level, as well as providing help when needed. Rebecca recently won number one sewing school in Durham region in the 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards.

 Eligibility Criteria

  • Operate your business in the Regional Municipality of Durham
  • Must be Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident living in Ontario
  • Over 18 years of age
  • Operating as a full-time business (average 35+ hours per week)
  • Applicant has to be the Business Owner - mandatory attendance for the pitch workshops and must pitch the business at the pitch event.
  • Be a registered business between 1 to 5 years
  • Business must have digital presence (website, online store or business social media)
  • Main street, product or service based business

Not Eligible: Franchises, non profit organizations, seasonal or part-time businesses, single events, commission sales businesses, technology products or services (i.e. apps, software, SaaS)
