What inspired you to start your own business?
Having always been in the arts, I am inspired by young and old people who have an interest in expanding their relationship with art and art making. I’m inspired by other artists as well as initiatives that view arts education and creativity as necessary in order to live a full life. Art is therapeutic by nature and my intention is to use the arts to help in areas of mental health and overall wellness. My family, my daughter and my community give me constant inspiration.

How did the help you got from BACD impact you and your business?
BACD has been instrumental in my realization that there is a need in my community for the service and products that I provide. They helped me to understand my skills and value the experience and knowledge that I’ve gained over the years. BACD advisory individuals pay so much attention to detail, that I was able to narrow down my market niche and build my business according to the business information I’ve been given.

What marketing strategies have been successful for you?
Networking is the best and most direct way I’ve developed awareness around my business. I utilize social media to create presence online and this has been successful especially for my JustGeorgia Paint Party events. Another successful strategy has been in creating a robust client list and surveys for specific markets I’ve worked within.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business?
I would say to approach each day with an entrepreneur’s mind; meaning look at every encounter as a potential client or form of business and start to build your ideas based on your skill set. Always be teachable or coachable, as this leads to added value for your service or product. Finally, know that patience and diligence will reap great success if you practise them. Don’t chase the money, but create ideas and the money will follow.

My business JustGeorgia is arts-based and operates in conjunction with my overall brand, called Full Fine Art. The success for me comes in having an open mind and offering multiple services and products. With the Full Fine Art brand I market my original paintings and mixed media work, create commissioned works of art and reproductions. This idea of a FULL picture of services and products is where my businesses excel!
