– Focus on the alternative space for individuals who may need additional support due to being turned down by the big banks usually due to being self-employed, have bruised credit, or being new to the country
– Moved to mortgage broker/agent side of the lending relationship after 8 years at one of Canada’s top alternative lenders to help clients navigate through the sometimes confusing lending process
– My end goal is to put a key focus on the customer experience while sharing valuable information on financial literacy
– it’s one thing to know how to start a business but another to understand what it is to be an entrepreneur. BACD was very helpful in understanding the management side of running your own business
– Print Media – distribution of business cards and business flyers
– Attending trade shows, sales conferences, daily word of mouth when engaging potential clients
– Active participation in the BACD
– Also not being used to a non-steady regular income was an adjustment that I also had to make being self employed.
– Participating in online social media group forums
– Staying abreast of recent news articles, podcasts, internet links referencing changes in the mortgage industry (i.e. B20 Guidlines)
– Make sure what you set out to do in your own business is something that you are passionate about
– Attend various networking events in the industry to give yourself some exposure to the types of events and audience you will be dealing with in future
– Engaging local chambers of commerce
– Finding and participating in Mastermind groups
– Treating people right and make sure your actions represent that same belief
– I have always wanted to start a business where the key focus was helping other people and by helping clients navigate the world of financial literacy I am able to fulfill my work goal/objective
– Being able to spend more time at home with my wife and kids was also key benefit that directed me to starting my own business
– And the added bonus is being able to be myself without restrictions that sometimes come with being part of the corporate world
